Product Description
Magdalena López’s Finca Santa Fe is located in the municipality of Consacá, in the southwesternmost corner of Colombia’s Nariño department, near the semi-active Galeras Volcano. This region, known for its rich volcanic soils, is ideal for cultivating coffee, as well as secondary crops like sugarcane, beans, and vegetables. At Finca Santa Fe, Doña Magdalena has gone a step further, dedicating part of her land to a natural forest reserve to preserve biodiversity and protect the local ecosystem.
The farm is planted primarily with Colombia variety coffee, alongside a small, young plot of Tabi. Magdalena is deeply committed to improving every aspect of her coffee production, from collection and processing to drying, ensuring the highest quality. The integration of the forest reserve into the farm’s polyculture system benefits both the coffee and the environment. By maintaining a diverse array of crops and preserving native flora and fauna, the reserve helps control pests naturally, reduces the need for pesticides, and protects clean groundwater.
This symbiotic approach reflects the smaller-scale farming traditions of the region, where family farms rarely exceed 2 hectares. These farms often combine coffee production with fruits, vegetables, and even animals like guinea pigs and pigs, which support both the families and their workers. At Finca Santa Fe, the combination of sustainable farming, innovative practices, and a dedication to environmental stewardship ensures a coffee that is not only exceptional but also deeply rooted in care for the land and its people.
